- Pumpkin: Any shape will do, but flat-topped varieties like fairytale or Cinderella are ideal for this project (Mini pumpkins work well too.)
- Glue: Hot glue gun, craft glue, floral glue. Spray adhesive for the moss
- Sphagnum moss (optional)
- Scissors or gardening snips
- Succulents or succulent clippings in assorted shapes, sizes, and colors
- Embellishments such as acorns, pine cones, and seed pods.
Spray the top of the pumpkin with spray adhesive, and press the moss onto it.
Using the glue gun, dribble glue along the stem of the succulent, and press it onto the moss, holding it in place until the glue sets. Generally larger succulents look best when clumped into the middle of the pumpkin, smaller ones can be glued along the rim. Add embellishments and you are ready for your fall centerpiece! Using a spray bottle with water, moisten the moss, as succulents take in water through their roots, not their petals. Water about every other week. When you are ready to get rid of the pumpkin, you can either cut off the top of the pumpkin, or remove the moos and plants, and plant into a container, and grow a succulent garden!
We always recommend ordering more cuttings than you think you will need so you have plenty to choose from. Any cuttings that are left over can be propagated and once the roots have grown in, you can pot them in soil and now you have a succulent plant.
